Eddy current induction

Eddy current induction creates a magnetic field via a coil, which induces circular currents in a conductive material. This method is used for non-destructive material quality testing.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action

A time-varying magnetic field from a coil induces eddy currents in an electrically conductive material. This process is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Eddy current induction is used to check component integrity and detect flaws such as cracks or damage. Incorrect settings can produce inaccurate results, affecting test reliability.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use a coil with a constant frequency variation (e.g., 50 Hz) and suitable conductor materials. Make sure the magnetic field is homogeneous and the test time is long enough to catch all possible flaws.
