Eddy current testing with differential coil arrangements

An electromagnetic testing technique where two opposing coils detect local material inhomogeneities. This suppresses background signals and increases sensitivity to minute cracks.

Eddy current testing is a non-destructive testing method to find near-surface cracks or material defects. You move a test probe over the weld and the workpiece. The probe generates a magnetic field, and if a defect is underneath, the signal changes on the screen. You must guide the probe calmly and with even pressure, otherwise you get false indications. The surface should be clean and free of slag, and you must check the setting beforehand on a defect-free piece.
