Tungsten Electrode
Tungsten electrode for TIG welding – from ultra-fine to extremely coarse. Selection based on application and current; rule of thumb: diameter Ø × 100 = max current in amps (A).
With a tungsten electrode, you can weld from ultra-fine to extremely coarse. The choice of the right tungsten electrode depends on the application and the desired current. As a rule of thumb, tungsten electrode diameter Ø x 100 = maximum current in amps (A). Basically, tungsten electrodes should be ground in the direction of travel. The optimal angle for normal welds is 20-30°, for fine seams the optimal angle is 17-20°. The optimal distance from the tungsten electrode tip to the workpiece should not be greater than the filler rod diameter. For TIG welding, dark blue tungsten electrodes (2% lanthanum oxide) are generally recommended. If the dark blue tungsten electrodes, during extremely fine welding with short, burst-like current pulses from 3 A, start to hiss with an unstable arc after a short time, you can also use the pink tungsten electrode (approx. 2% to 4% rare earth oxides).
