Zirconiated tungsten electrode

Tungsten electrode with zirconium oxide stabilizes the arc during AC welding of aluminum alloys, prevents distortion, and improves weld quality.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Zirconium additives in the tungsten electrode reduce the oxidation potential of the electrolyte, resulting in less aluminum oxide formation. This prevents arc distortion and improves weld quality.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without the zirconium oxide additive, the electrode can oxidize too quickly, making the arc unstable and prone to distortion. This can lead to poor weld quality and cracking.

Workshop Practice & Handling Instructions

Use zirconium tungsten electrodes for AC welding of aluminum alloys. Make sure the electrode is clean and the arc remains stable. Proper voltage and a steady travel speed are critical.
