Tungsten Inert Gas Welding

TIG welding is an arc welding process using a tungsten electrode and shielding gas that enables precise root passes and defect-free joints.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

TIG welding uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode. The shielding gas (inert) protects the workpiece and the weld zone from oxidation and contamination.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

This method is especially suitable for high-precision applications. Incorrect gas supply or inadequate shielding gas coverage can lead to oxidation issues and poor joint quality.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use a tungsten electrode with a suitable inert gas (e.g., argon). Ensure good shielding gas coverage and stable gas supply. Keep the electrode as close to the workpiece as possible but not touching it, to ensure optimal heat conductivity.
