Pulsed Tungsten Inert Gas Welding
A TIG welding process utilizing a periodically modulated arc current for precise control of heat input and weld pool geometry. This enables accurate root penetration management and minimizes thermal distortion.
In TIG welding with pulsed current, the welding current is periodically switched between a base and a pulse value. This gives you a pulsating weld pool that is easier to control. The advantage is that you can weld thinner sheets more cleanly and introduce less heat into the component, which reduces distortion. Set the pulse frequency and current levels according to the material and sheet thickness. If you choose the parameters correctly, you get a uniform weld with good penetration. If set incorrectly, the weld pool can become unstable or you burn through the material. Make sure the gas flow is sufficient to properly shield the weld pool. The exact values depend on your welding position and the base material. Best to try it on a scrap piece until the weld looks clean.
