Tungsten solid solution hardening
The enhancement of high-temperature strength through substitutionally dissolved tungsten, which creates strong elastic lattice distortions in the microstructure due to its large atomic radius.
Tungsten as an alloying element hardens the structure through solid solution formation. When welding, you need to be careful not to heat the material too much, otherwise the structure coarsens and the weld becomes brittle. The tungsten content is crucial – too much makes the material prone to stress cracking. Keep the heat input low and controlled, then the hardening is maintained.
