Tungsten Electrode Grinding Device
Tungsten electrode grinding fixture: precise grinding of the tungsten electrode in the longitudinal direction to stabilize the arc in TIG welding.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The tungsten electrode grinding device creates a smooth surface on the electrode, which improves arc stability. An uneven surface area can cause instabilities and flickering in the arc.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
A poorly pointed electrode can lead to uneven heat distribution and thus uneven weld spacing. This increases the risk of cracks or distortion in the weld.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use the tungsten electrode grinding device regularly before inserting a new electrode. Grind the electrode slowly and evenly in the longitudinal direction to the desired roughness (usually 120 µm). Make sure the arc is stable and flicker-free before starting the actual welding.
