Root Protection Tape

A root backing tape is a self-adhesive auxiliary tape with a fiberglass or ceramic based protective insert that protects and shapes the root side on single-sided joint preparations. It remains temperature resistant.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The root protection band consists of a self-adhesive material with a glass fiber or ceramic based protective layer on the surface. This layer offers high temperature resistance and protects the root side from deformation and corrosion.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Without a root protection band, the root side can deform at high temperatures or corrosion can occur. This leads to uneven stresses and increases the risk of cracks and destruction of the weld.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the root protection band for single-sided joint preparations to protect the root side. Place it before jointing and let it self-adhere. Make sure the band lies well on the root side and no air bubbles form. The temperature resistance of the material ensures it remains stable during the welding process.
