Double-V groove geometry
X-weld is a double-sided beveled groove with an angle of 45 degrees. It minimizes weld metal volume and reduces thermal delays.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The X-groove geometry features a symmetrical joint with a 45-degree angle. This leads to an even distribution of stresses and reduces weld metal volume, as less material is required.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
The symmetrical joint improves the mechanical properties of the weld through even stress distribution. However, an incorrect angle can lead to uneven stress distribution and possible cracks.
Workshop Practice & Instructions for Use
Use a 45-degree angle for X-grooves. Ensure the joint is symmetrical and no uneven stresses develop. For plate thicknesses above 3 mm, an X-groove is particularly advantageous.
