Finite Life Region

The finite life fatigue range is the range where parts crack under repeated loads (cycles). It is defined by the descending branch of the Wöhler curve (S-N curve).

Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus

The finite life fatigue range describes how materials behave under repeated loading. Every cycle causes micro-deformations that eventually lead to visible failure.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Wrong welding parameters or insufficient cooling can increase fatigue and thus lead to failure in the finite life fatigue range. This can result in cracks, fractures, or other mechanical defects in the component structure.

Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen

To minimize the risk of fatigue failure, pay attention to correct welding parameters and careful cooling. Use suitable materials with sufficient finite life fatigue strength for the application. For critical components, a detailed fatigue calculation is essential.
