Destructive Weld Testing

Destructive weld testing checks the mechanical properties of a welded joint by stressing it to failure. It provides precise data on toughness, strength, and microstructure.

Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus

Destructive weld testing involves stressing a specimen from the weld joint until failure under mechanical load. This can be done by bending, compression, or other methods. The process shows the actual mechanical properties of the material.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

This test is critical for the safety and reliability of weld joints, especially in critical applications. Wrong results can lead to inaccurate assessments of mechanical properties, which brings risks in the component's service. A faulty test can also damage the material and make the test impossible.

Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen

For proper destructive weld testing, it's important that the specimen is representative of the entire weld joint. The loading method and intensity must match the specific requirements of the component. It's also important that the test is done under controlled conditions to ensure reliable results.
