Non-Destructive Testing

Non-destructive material testing is a methodology for checking components for internal and external flaws without damaging the part. These tests are especially essential for critical components.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Non-destructive material testing uses non-invasive methods such as ultrasound, X-rays, or magnetic resonance imaging. These techniques enable the detection of pores, inclusions, and other defects inside the material without damaging the material itself.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

These tests are crucial for the safety and reliability of components. They help in detecting defective welds, inhomogeneities, or deformations before the component is put into service. Without such tests, hidden defects can lead to later failures.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use non-destructive material testing regularly when checking weld quality and material integrity. For ultrasonic testing, you should use a qualified technician who sets the correct frequency and amplitude. For X-ray testing, pay attention to the correct dose level and image quality. Magnetic resonance imaging requires special equipment and software operated by experienced technicians.
