Zirconium deoxidation mechanism

Use of zirconium to remove oxygen and nitrogen from the melt through the formation of highly stable zirconium oxides and nitrides. This leads to a finer deoxidation morphology.

Zirconium acts as a strong deoxidizing and denitriding agent in the melt. It binds oxygen and nitrogen, ensuring a calm, clean melt surface, which prevents pores in the weld metal. This stuff improves strength and corrosion resistance, but you must not overdo the amount. Too much zirconium makes the structure too fine and can degrade mechanical properties. So keep the addition sparing and controlled, then you'll have no problems.
