Zirconiated Tungsten Electrode

Zirconium-modified tungsten electrode forms a stable arc zone and reduces tungsten inclusions in the weld pool. This improves fill accuracy and prevents distortion.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Zirconia additives in the electrode react with the weld metal to create a more stable arc. They tie up tungsten and prevent its coarsening in the weld.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without zirconia modification, tungsten inclusions can alter the weld structure, leading to distortion and inconsistencies. A stable arc improves deposition accuracy and minimizes distortion.

Shop Practice & Action Points

Use zirconiated tungsten electrodes for jobs requiring precise deposition and low distortion. Make sure the electrode is properly mounted and forms a stable arc.
