Zirconium-Containing Copper Alloy

A precipitation-hardened alloy that combines high softening temperatures with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. It is typically utilized for electrode caps in resistance welding.

CuZr is a high-strength copper material that retains its good conductivity even after severe thermal exposure. The zirconium ensures that the material doesn't soften quickly at high temperatures. When welding, you need to keep the heat low and cool quickly, otherwise you'll lose the strength. If you hold the alloy hot too long, the structure coarsens and the material becomes soft and unusable. For electrodes and weld seams, it's a top material, but only if you control the cooling.
