Zirconia-coated tungsten electrode

Zirconium oxide-coated tungsten electrode facilitates arc ignition and prevents tungsten particles in the weld metal. It is used in AC TIG welding.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The zirconia layer on the tungsten electrode protects against corrosion and prevents tungsten particles from entering the weld metal. This improves arc stability and ignition control.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Without such a coating, tungsten particles in the weld metal can lead to hardness problems and cracks. The coated electrode minimizes these risks and improves weld quality.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use zirconia-coated tungsten electrodes for TIG AC welding. Make sure the electrode is clean and dry before use. Proper coating extends electrode life and improves weld quality.
