Zirconia tungsten electrode

Zirconium oxide tungsten electrode is a special electrode for AC welding of aluminum alloys. It forms a stable ball point and minimizes tungsten spitting.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The zirconia tungsten electrode consists of a ceramic core surrounded by a tungsten layer. The zirconia protective layer prevents corrosion and forms a stable ball at the electrode tip.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This electrode is used on aluminum alloys to ensure high weld quality. It prevents tungsten spits that can cause porosity and weak spots. A missing ball can lead to uneven heat transfer and poor weld joints.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the zirconia tungsten electrode for AC welding of aluminum alloys. Ensure the ball is stable and no tungsten spits occur. Clean the electrode regularly to extend its life.
