Tensile Strength

Tensile strength (Rm) is the maximum stress a material can withstand before it fails. It shows the material's strength under tension.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Tensile strength (Rm) measures the maximum mechanical stress a material can withstand before it suddenly ruptures. This point is called the breaking point or tearing point.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

A low tensile strength value (Rm) increases the risk of cracks and deformation. Under excessive pressure, the steel may suddenly tear, leading to hazardous situations.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

To increase tensile strength (Rm), you should:

• Choose the right welding process and parameters

• Carefully prepare the steel beforehand

• Use a suitable shielding gas

• Control the cooling rate

• Add alloying elements like silicon or titanium as needed
