Transverse Tensile Test
The transverse tensile test checks the tensile strength of a weld across the joint line and determines the fracture location.
Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus
A cross-section tensile test is done by applying a stress rig to the weld. The stress is slowly increased until the weld breaks. This test shows how strong the joint is in length and width.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
A failed tensile test can indicate that the weld is too weak or uneven. This leads to cracks or deformation in the joint and can affect the overall strength of the part.
Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen
For a cross-section tensile test, use a stress rig that applies a constant stress. The weld must be at least 10 mm wide, and the test length should be twice the weld thickness. Slowly increase the stress until fracture stress is measured.
