Two-Dimensional Matrix Array Probes

Two-dimensional matrix array probes consist of piezoelectric elements arranged in a grid, enabling full electronic beam steering and focusing in three-dimensional space. They offer higher resolution and better inspection accuracy.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Matrix array probes consist of a grid of piezoelectric elements arranged in two dimensions (horizontal and vertical). These elements can be activated independently to generate and focus specific beam directions.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

These probes enable more precise detection of flaws, cracks, or other defects in the workpiece. Incorrect arrangement or activation of the elements can lead to inaccurate results and may cause important defects to be missed.

Workshop Practice & Action Items

Use matrix array probes with a resolution of at least 128 x 128 elements for optimal results. Ensure the probe beams are directed perpendicular to the workpiece and that damping of at least 60 dB is guaranteed.
