Duplex Aging
A targeted heat treatment cycle with two distinct temperature stages to optimize Guinier-Preston zones and coherent precipitates. This maximizes the yield strength of high-strength lightweight alloys.
The material is hardened in two steps: first hot forged, then annealed at a lower temperature. This forms fine precipitates in the structure that make the material stronger. If the heat treatment is off, these precipitates don't form. Then the material becomes softer and more prone to cracking, especially in the heat-affected zone during welding. Make sure parts are in the right condition before welding. After welding, heat treatment may be needed to restore strength. Stick to the specified temperatures and times for the base material.
