Bainitic microstructure
A non-equilibrium microstructure composed of ferritic needles and carbide precipitates, forming at cooling rates intermediate between those of pearlite and martensite.
Intermediate structure forms when the steel cools after welding in such a way that neither martensite nor pearlite is formed. The result is a tough, well-stressable structure that is suitable for many parts. In practice, this means: you have to control the cooling after welding. Don't let it cool too fast, otherwise it becomes hard and crack-sensitive. But not too slow either, otherwise the structure becomes too soft. The correct cooling rate depends on the steel, so stick to the specifications for the respective material.
