C70W2

1.1620 (C70W2) is the old DIN designation for the plain carbon [[glossary:kaltarbeitsstahl|tool steel]] with 0.7 % [[element:C|carbon]] — today it's called C70U (1.1520). It's a [[glossary:wasserhaertung|water-hardening steel]] that only hardens in the surface layer, while the core stays tough. Use: hand tools, chisels, pliers, simple cutting tools.
