1.2312

40CrMnMoS8-6

1.2312 (40CrMnMoS8-6) is the sulfur-alloyed brother of 1.2311: same base alloy (1.9 % [[element:Cr|chromium]], [[element:Mo|molybdenum]]), but with [[element:S|sulfur]] added for better [[glossary:zerspanbarkeit|machinability]]. It's the [[glossary:kunststoffformenstahl|plastic mold steel]] for large molds where long milling times are involved. Downside of the sulfur: slightly lower [[glossary:zaehigkeit|toughness]] and poorer polishability than 1.2311.
