X40CrMoV5-1

1.2344 (X40CrMoV5-1) is the most commonly used [[glossary:warmarbeitsstahl|hot-work steel]]: 5 % [[element:Cr|chromium]], [[element:Mo|molybdenum]], and [[element:V|vanadium]] make it hot-hard up to 600 °C. Compared to 1.2343, it has a bit more [[element:C|carbon]] — higher [[glossary:haerte|hardness]], slightly lower [[glossary:zaehigkeit|toughness]]. It's the standard for [[glossary:druckguss|die-casting dies]], [[glossary:schmiedegesenk|forging dies]], and hot-forming tools. Its big strength: it takes the [[glossary:thermoschock|thermal shock]] when molten aluminum hits the die and gets quenched right away.
