1.4307

X2CrNi18-9

The 1.4307 (X2CrNi18-9) is an austenitic stainless [[element:Cr|chromium]]-[[element:Ni|nickel]] steel — non-magnetic, tough all the way through, and usually easy to weld. The [[element:Mo|molybdenum]] grades (like 1.4404 or 1.4571) also stand up better to chlorides. Known weak points when welding: strong thermal expansion ([[glossary:verzug|distortion]]), tendency to [[glossary:heissriss|hot cracking]], and the risk of [[glossary:chromverarmung|chromium depletion]] in the [[glossary:waermeeinflusszone|heat-affected zone]]. Typical analysis: 0.02 % C, 18.2 % Cr, 1.2 % Mn, 8.5 % Ni, 0.5 % Si.
