1.4311
X2CrNiN18-10
The 1.4311 (X2CrNiN18-10) is an austenitic, stainless [[element:Cr|chromium]]-[[element:Ni|nickel]] steel — non-magnetic, tough all the way through, and generally easy to weld. The [[element:Mo|molybdenum]]-containing grades (like 1.4404 or 1.4571) also resist chlorides better. Known weak points when welding: strong thermal expansion ([[glossary:verzug|distortion]]), tendency to [[glossary:heissriss|hot cracking]], and the risk of [[glossary:chromverarmung|chromium depletion]] in the [[glossary:waermeeinflusszone|heat-affected zone]]. Typical analysis: 0.02 % C, 0.12–0.22 % N, 18.5 % Cr, 1.2 % Mn, 9.5 % Ni, 0.5 % Si.
