1.4408

GX5CrNiMo19-11-2

The 1.4408 (GX5CrNiMo19-11-2) is an austenitic, stainless [[element:Cr|chromium]]-[[element:Ni|nickel]] steel — non-magnetic, tough all the way through, and generally easy to weld. The [[element:Mo|molybdenum]] grades (like 1.4404 or 1.4571) also hold up better against chlorides. Known weak spots when welding: high thermal expansion ([[glossary:verzug|distortion]]), [[glossary:heissriss|hot cracking]] tendency, and the risk of [[glossary:chromverarmung|chromium depletion]] in the [[glossary:waermeeinflusszone|heat-affected zone]]. Typical composition: 0.05 % C, 19 % Cr, 1 % Mn, 2.2 % Mo, 10.5 % Ni, 1 % Si.
