copper-silver contact material

A copper-silver contact material increases the softening temperature and improves the burn-off resistance in electrical switching elements. This leads to more reliability and longer service lives.

Physicochemical mechanism of action

Copper-silver contact materials contain silver, which increases the softening temperature of copper. This prevents rapid cooling and the formation of oxidative compounds on the contact surfaces.

Metallurgical relevance & risks during welding

Too high a silver content can lead to fusion of the contacts, which leads to increased resistance and unreliable switching. Too low a silver content reduces the softening effectiveness and the burn-off resistance.

Workshop practice & instructions

Use contact materials with a silver content of 1-2% for optimum performance. Ensure that the switching elements are handled correctly during assembly and welding in order to obtain the desired burn-off resistance.
